Multiple a-Globin Genes in Crab-eating Macaques

چکیده
Alpha-globin genes in crab-eating macaques’were found to be triplicated at high frequencies according to restriction-enzyme comparisons. The frequencies of triplicated a-globin genes in macaques originally from Malaysia and Indonesia were 0.432 and 0.275, respectively, while no triplication was found in individuals from either the Philippines or northern and central Thailand. Quadruplicated a-globin genes were also observed, at frequencies of 0.045 (Malaysia), 0.075 (Indonesia), and 0.02 1 (the Philippines). A single locus was detected in only one of 40 chromosomes from Indonesia (frequency 0.025).

Phylogeny and History of the Lost SIV from Crab-Eating Macaques: SIVmfa
In the 20th century, thirteen distinct human immunodeficiency viruses emerged following independent cross-species transmission events involving simian immunodeficiency viruses (SIV) from African primates. In the late 1900s, pathogenic SIV strains also emerged in the United Sates among captive Asian macaque species following their unintentional infection with SIV from African sooty mangabeys (SI...
متن کاملPhylogenetic relationships among Japanese, rhesus, Formosan, and crab-eating monkeys, inferred from restriction-enzyme analysis of mitochondrial DNAs.
Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) polymorphisms in four species of macaques, i.e., Japanese monkey (Macaca fuscata), rhesus monkey (M. mulatta), Formosan monkey (M. cyclopis), and crab-eating monkey (M. fascicularis), were analyzed to study phylogenetic relationships. When 17 restriction enzymes of 6-bp recognition were used, 42-49 sites were observed in the samples. The estimated number of nucleotide ...
متن کاملThe Spectrum of Mutations in 100 Thalassemic Carriers Referred to Ghaem Hospital of Mashhad
Abstract Background Thalassemia is common in the Iranian population, and it must be considered in the differential diagnosis of the microcytic hypochromic anemia. The molecular analysis of β-thalassemia is necessary for prenatal molecular diagnosis. Α-thalassemia caused by loss of function of either one of the two duplicated α-globin genes or in less frequent non deletion mutations mostly loc...
متن کاملEvolutionary rate of immunoglobulin alpha noncoding region is greater in hominoids than in Old World monkeys.
Recent studies on the molecular evolution of primates show that the evolutionary rate among hominoids is considerably slower than that among nonhominoid primates. However, this observation at the nucleotide-sequence level is restricted to the beta-globin family region. In this study, we sequenced orthologous immunoglobulin alpha (C alpha) genes of chimpanzee, gorilla, orangutan, and crab-eating...
متن کاملTranscriptomes reveal the genetic mechanisms underlying ionic regulatory adaptations to salt in the crab-eating frog
The crab-eating frog, Fejervarya cancrivora, is the only frog that lives near seas. It tolerates increased environmental concentrations of sodium, chloride and potassium partly by raising ion and urea levels in its blood plasma. The molecular mechanism of the adaptation remains rarely documented. Herein, we analyze transcriptomes of the crab-eating frog and its closely related saline-intolerant...
